Ealing Citizens Youth Commission launch
Members of Ealing Citizens have been doing lots of listening over the past year! Young people have found they are facing serious challenges - particularly inadequate housing, unsafe journeys to and from school, and a lack of local opportunities. They quickly realised that these are issues that they cannot tackle school by school, but rather issues that need a collective approach.
On Thursday 9 October, we launched the Ealing Youth Commission, with participation from Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School and VIlliers High School, and guests from local charities and higher education present.
The young people presented their understanding of the challenges they face, and their plan for the commission - to begin with deeper listening, to build relationships with experts and ither stakeholders, and to take action.
Next steps: the commission team is now going away to listen to their peers in their institutions, learn about the issues they're facing, and come up with both solutions that each institution can implement, and the asks we can take to decision-makers.
Many educational institutions (primary schools, secondary schools, and colleges) choose to become members of Citizens UK to build a better, fairer society.
