Our response to care worker omission in public sector pay rise

In response to the news today (July 21, 2020) that public sector workers would be given a pay rise, we were disappointed to see that care workers were omitted from this.

Our Executive Director, Matthew Bolton, said: "It is disappointing to see that care workers were omitted from the Chancellor’s decision to give a pay rise to certain key workers. It's simply wrong that almost half a million social care sector employees, who have been on the front line risking their lives to protect the most vulnerable throughout the Covid-19 outbreak, are struggling to keep their heads above water earning poverty pay. It also makes sense to pay those fighting Covid-19 a real Living Wage in terms of building our resilience to this pandemic.

"We're urging the Chancellor to give social care the funding it needs so that all employees in the sector are paid a real Living Wage. If you agree visit livingwage4keyworkers.org.uk to ensure our care workers are not forgotten."
