Celebrating International Women's Day with Women100 Citizens at Queen Mary University of London

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day on the 8th of 2023, Women100UK held their 5th annual IWD event celebrated 4 days earlier on the 4th of March at the Queen Mary University London.
The occasion celebrated the success of the local community leaders who deliver great support to local women to fight for campaigns that matter to them. A magazine focused on their journey to leadership and work was also launched at the event. The Octagon at QMUL served as an ideal venue for the 190 attendees on the day. The event showcased many talents which included singing, dancing, and even an international traditional fashion show.
The event was made even more exciting by having special guest speakers who were nothing but inspirations to our women. MP Rushanara Ali, MP Apsana Begum, Cllr Asma Khan, Cllr Mumtaz Khan, Cllr Mufeeda Bustin, and even the Head Teacher of Osmani Primary School, Remi Atoyobi. The room was nothing short of a powerhouse of strength and resilience, inspiration, and motivation.
Attendees enjoyed a luscious lunch with live nasheeds in the background followed by teas and coffees while networking. The boroughs community organiser Afsana Salik, the CEO of Maryam Centre Sufia Alam, trained Women100UK Leaders, and students from the QMUL all worked in collaboration to deliver an exceptional event which proved to be a great success.
Additionally, Women100 launched the 'Women100 Magazine', capturing the stories and journeys of women in the community. Women100 Citizens delivered a 'Writing For Justice' course for leaders, 10 leaders took part in this and reflected around an injustice they experienced. This course helped leaders to learn writing tools and techniques, and provided a space to reflect and reconnect with their journey. Rushanara Ali MP and Apsana Begum MP from Tower Hamlets were there to give speeches and to help launch the magazine.
The key aim of this event was to discuss women’s health in East London. In partnership with QMUL, Tower Hamlets Citizens aims to understand the lack of knowledge people in the community have regarding women’s health as well as the potential barriers to this information. In turn, Citizens UK and QMUL want to recognise the role institutions in Tower Hamlets can play in making this more accessible to all. As a follow up to this discussion, the Borough Organiser Afsana Salik will be holding workshops in the member organisations she has in Tower Hamlets and understand from their leaders their issues around health and access to right information. ২০২৩ সালের ৮ তারিখে বিশ্ব যখন আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস উদযাপন করে, উইমেন 100UK তাদের 5তম বার্ষিক IWD ইভেন্টের চার দিন আগে মার্চের ৪ তারিখে লন্ডনের কুইন মেরি ইউনিভার্সিটিতে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস পালন করে।
এই অনুষ্ঠানটি স্থানীয় সম্প্রদায়ের নেতাদের সাফল্য উদযাপন করেছে, যারা তাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রচারাভিযানের জন্য লড়াই করার জন্য স্থানীয় মহিলাদের ব্যাপক সমর্থন প্রদান করে।তাদের নেতৃত্বের যাত্রা এবং কাজের উপর দৃষ্টি নিবদ্ধ একটি ম্যাগাজিনও ইভেন্টে চালু করা হয়েছিল।ম্যাগাজিনটি এমপি রোশনারা আলী উদ্ধোধন করেছিলেন।
QMUL এর অক্টাগন সেন্টার এই দিনটিতে 190 জন অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জন্য একটি আদর্শ স্থান ছিল। ইভেন্টটিতে অনেক প্রতিভা প্রদর্শন করা হয়েছিল,যার মধ্যে গান গাওয়া, নাচ এবং এমনকি একটি আন্তর্জাতিক ঐতিহ্যবাহী পোশাক ফ্যাশন শো অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল।
বিশেষ অতিথি বক্তারা আমাদের নারীদের অনুপ্রেরণা ছাড়া আর কিছুই ছিলেন না বলে অনুষ্ঠানটিকে আরও রোমাঞ্চকর করে তোলে। এমপি রুশনারা আলী, এমপি অাফসানা বেগম, কাউন্সিলর আসমা খান, কাউন্সিলর মমতাজ খান, কাউন্সিলর মুফিদা বুস্টিন, এমনকি ওসমানী প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক রেমি আতয়বী সকলেই শক্তিশালী জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি শেয়ার করেছিলেন। কক্ষটি শক্তি এবং স্থিতিস্থাপকতা, অনুপ্রেরণা এবং অনুপ্রেরণার পাওয়ার হাউস থেকে কম ছিল না।
