Building a relationship with the new North of Tyne Mayor

In May 2019 a new North of Tyne combined authority will be set up, with an election to decide its Mayor. As the largest civic society alliance in the region, our community leaders are coming together to have their say on what the new mayor should do and how power can shift to local people and communities. Find out more!

Taj Khan of Newcastle Central Mosque wants the new Mayor to work with us to tackle the rise of hate crimes.

Steve Foster of Together Newcastle would like the new Mayor to work with rural communities to improve access to public transport.

Wendy McConnell of Parents and Communities Together ( PACT) in Tyneside, hopes the new Mayor will support bottom-up, community-led projects like PACT, which aims to tackle the social isolation of vulnerable mums and improve health outcomes for their children.

Like most of our members Taj, Steve and Wendy didn't use to feel part of the political decision making process. Being part of Tyne and Wear Citizens, however, increases their and all of our power to work effectively on the issues that matter to us.

So, together, we're holding our first Accountability Assembly with the main candidates for the role of North of Tyne Mayor.
