Lambeth Community Comes Together to Promote Credit Union

On Monday 6 th July 40 community leaders came together for a mass hand-in of membership forms to the London Mutual Credit Union branch on Acre Lane in Brixton. Working with Lambeth Citizens, local branch of community organising charity Citizens UK, and the Church Credit Champions Network (CTC), leaders from local faith and community groups handed in over 150 membership forms to the credit union.

Rev Andrew Dart from the Brixton and Streatham Methodist Circuit said:

“Over the past few months we have been publicising the credit union in our churches as a way of contributing to the community. It’s important to us that people in the community have a means to save ethically and borrow in a safe and affordable manner rather than having to rely on potentially dangerous payday loans.”

The project to promote the credit union comes as part of the financial resilience strategy that Lambeth Citizens co-authored with Lambeth Council. The council provided £10 for each new member of the credit union.
