Get Involved!

We are the Birmingham chapter of Citizens UK, the largest alliance of civil society organisations in the country. We bring together schools, universities, faith groups, charities and community organisations to build the power we need to win change on the issues our members care about.

We are a growing alliance, and we are always interested in working with organisations who share our values and are willing to roll up their sleeves to win change alongside us. Right now we are entering a period of real growth, both in Birmingham and across the Black Country, where we are establishing a brand new chapter.

There has never been a better time to join us.

What we have won

We have a track record of action and wins stretching back to 2013. Our members have campaigned successfully for Living Wage employers across the city, safer streets around our schools, more humane treatment of refugees and asylum seekers, and stronger commitments from elected leaders on housing and work. Every win has been built by ordinary people in our member institutions taking action together.

You can read the full archive of campaign blogs and write-ups here.

Join Birmingham Citizens

Birmingham Citizens is a membership organisation. Our members are not individuals but institutions: churches, mosques, synagogues, schools, universities, trade unions, charities and community groups. Membership gives your institution a seat at the table, training for your leaders, and the collective power of the wider alliance behind the issues you care about.

If you think your organisation might be interested in joining, we would love to talk. Get in touch and we will arrange a conversation about what membership could look like for you.

Come to a free taster training

We use a method called community organising to build our alliance and win change. If you want to learn more about how it works, come along to one of our free taster sessions. They are open to anyone exploring membership, as well as leaders from existing member institutions who want to learn more.

Training will be held on the 17th and 18th of June.

If you are in Birmingham, or the Black Country, register for free taster training here.

Housing Rights Training - 30th of April, 9:00-5:00

This training covers key housing rights and routes to support, including private renting (with the new Renters’ Rights Act), homelessness and temporary accommodation standards, applying for a council home, and living in council housing under Awaab’s Law. It also highlights the importance of helping people make formal complaints and explains how to do so, with priority registration for Housing Campaign Action Team members, followed by other member organisations who will benefit from the training.

RSVP and further details.

Lets talk!

If you have been inspired by what you have seen and want to know more, the best next step is a conversation. No pressure, let's grab a coffee and talk about how you can play a role in building strong communities that win change.
