University of Manchester: pay the real Living Wage

Sign our letter to Patrick Hacket, Chief Operating Officer, and call on the University of Manchester to commit to paying all staff the real Living Wage.

If you are a student or member of staff at the University, please indicate this in the 'Comment' field below.

Dear Patrick Hackett,

We call on you to commit to make the University of Manchester a Living Wage employer that pays all those who work for the University the real Living Wage or more.

As residents of Manchester, members of local civic society institutions as well as students and staff at the University, we believe that the University of Manchester should voluntarily go further than the legal minimum and ensure that workers are being paid enough to live on. Only the real Living Wage is independently calculated and based on the true cost of living.

As an institution that is deeply rooted in our city, the University has a responsibility to serve our communities by ensuring that none of its employees are trapped in in-work poverty. By choosing to become a Living Wage accredited employer, the University can set an example to other big employers in Greater Manchester and beyond.

Yours sincerely,
