Theresa May: Do not abandon the Dubs Scheme for refugee children

Theresa May has decided to shut down the Dubs Scheme - a promise by the Government to bring the most vulnerable refugee children to safety in the UK.

Our country has a proud tradition of welcoming those most in need. We stepped up to rescue 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi persecution.

I myself arrived in the UK by the Kindertransport.

Now more than ever we must stand by our values.

Thousands of children we promised to help are still in danger.

Britain is better than this. Sign to keep the Dubs Scheme alive.

Yours,

Lord Alf Dubs

How can we face our children and grandchildren if we turn away the children and grandchildren of people like ourselves who had the misfortune to be living in a country torn apart by conflict. Of course we must take them and as many as we possibly can.

    Samaritans? I hope so.

There are plenty of people and councils willing and able to take these children and give them a bright future here in the UK , to turn them away is downright evil

How anyone purporting to be a Christian can turn away from helpless children, the totally innocent victims of the machinations of politicians is utterly incomprehensible and shameful. As the days go by I see these cruel rejections and I am ashamed to be British!

I’m completely sick of selfish, callous refusal of governments- not just ours- refusing to do the right thing. It’s not our responsibility, they’re security risks, we can’t afford it, bla bla bla. If the US (for example) hadn’t turned down the Frank family, they’d still be alive today. Closing down this scheme would be one of the most despicable, cowardly things the British government has ever done and that’s saying a lot. Why can’t anybody act with decency and compassion for once?
