Theresa May: Do not abandon the Dubs Scheme for refugee children

Theresa May has decided to shut down the Dubs Scheme - a promise by the Government to bring the most vulnerable refugee children to safety in the UK.

Our country has a proud tradition of welcoming those most in need. We stepped up to rescue 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi persecution.

I myself arrived in the UK by the Kindertransport.

Now more than ever we must stand by our values.

Thousands of children we promised to help are still in danger.

Britain is better than this. Sign to keep the Dubs Scheme alive.

I am the director of a small registered charity Street Talk which works with women trapped in exploitative prostitution. All of the women we work with became vulnerable in childhood. The unaccompanied children are in grave danger. It is our responsibility to keep them safe.

I am appalled at Theresa May’s Government’s U-turn on the Dubbs Amendment. We must do all we can to change this and use our votes at the ballot box on Thursday, 8 June 2017. Make change happen!

Don’t stop this scheme. How can we not support children who have nothing and no-one? Where is our heart? Where is our humanity?

We need to think about all the children suffering through wars especially in regions where UK and allies had involvement in one way or another. As civilise society we need to do better.

If we are to be considered a civilised society we must offer these unfortunate children and a safe refuge and protection from the perils oh being at the mercy of exploiters.
