Launch of five-week course for churches. Ready for Lent 2016
Who is my neighbour? Faith, housing and the local community
London Citizens is launching a five-week course for churches ahead of the London 2016 Mayoral elections which explores housing and the local community through the eyes of faith. While communities across the city experience the impact of the housing crisis, this course enables churches to reflect on scripture, engage with housing issues in their community, and respond with prayer and action.
The course was put together by the Revd Ellen Wakeham, Lambeth Citizens and the Centre for Theology & Community. Each session includes a short video filmed by secondary school students from Saint Gabriel's College, offering perspectives on faith and housing from their neighbours in London Citizens.
The course includes sessions on being a good neighbour, tenants and landlords, the effect of housing on our community institutions, affordability and the divide between rich and poor, and taking action together.
This is the first of two courses reflecting on the housing crisis with wisdom drawn from communities of faith; the second will be available as a study guide for all faiths or none, drawing on Jewish, Christian and Islamic perspectives in Lambeth Citizens.
