Social Justice Champions Training

Who is it for: Anyone, lay or ordained, who wants to play an active part in strengthening both their local church and God’s work for justice in the wider city.

Time: 10:30am-4pm (except Commissioning Service TBC)

Leeds South and West Methodist Circuit is pleased to host this unique training opportunity for Christians in Leeds with support from Leeds Citizens. The training will help us grow as a discipleship movement shaped for mission through:

  • Equipping presbyters, deacons and lay people with the tools of Community Organising for use in their ministry
  • Increasing the capacity of individual churches to participate in outreach and social action in their community.
  • Developing a circuit-wide network of “Social Justice Champions” to provide sustainable leadership and energy across the circuit
  • Providing access to city-wide social justice campaigns and interfaith networks through participation in Leeds Citizens.

Programme Outline

The training will be delivered by Tom Chigbo, a Community Organiser with Leeds Citizens.

It will contain a combination of theory, practical tools, stories and local action. Over the course of the year, we will cover 4 modules. Between each session, participants will be encouraged to practice a Community Organising tool or be set a simple “challenge” for completion with their church or local community.

Saturday 11th March – Listening & Building Relationships

Saturday 8th April – The Cycle of Action

  • Leadership
  • Building Research, Action and Evaluation into Church Life

  • Designing Your Own Action
  • A Plan for Your Church
  • Evaluation 

Circuit Commissioning Service
