The Inquiry ran for six weeks between 15th October and 27th November 2011. Our Stories, Our Streets, Our London

On 15th December London Citizens will be hosting a seasonal procession to celebrate Eid-al-Adha, Hanukkah and Christmas. We will also be celebrating and honouring the people and their institutions that have made London great. You and your instituion are invited to register to participate in this historic day.

Delegations will gather in Ford Square, Whitechapel. At 10.00am we will begin our procession.
Our route will being up Ashfield Street and onto Sidney Street past the childhood home of Sir Jack Cohen (founder of Tesco’s). We will cross Whitechapel / Mile End Road on to Cambridge Heath Road where we will be reminded of William Booth (founder of the Salvation Army). We will continue north to York Hall (Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green).  Here we will pause, warm up with some hot drinks, eat our packed lunches and watch colourful presentations from a cast of hundreds which will illustrate the history of civil society in this neighbourhood – and demonstrate the vast talent we have in our institutions today. We will then continue north into Hackney along Mare Stree to St John-at-Hackney, Lower Clapton Road for a Seasonal Assembly.
The Assembly will be led by Citizens UK’s leaders including Father Rob Wickham (St John’s), Senior Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg (New North London Synagogue) and Mr Md Abdul Bari (East London Mosque).

We look forward to welcoming you to this day of celebration.
Please note delegations are encouraged to come in costume and with a banner indicating the name of their institution. There will be prizes for the most original delegation as well as a Christmas Tree decorating competition.

TELCO Annual Assembly & 15th Anniversary

Members are invited to TELCO’s 15 Year Anniversary Assembly on 30th November. Whether you are a new member or one of the founding members we want to celebrate with you 15 years of Community Organising, building power and changing our neighbourhoods and our city for the better.

At TELCO’s Delegates Assembly, ‘Jobs’, ‘Housing’ and ‘Safety’ were voted as the top three priorities for the organisation. We have an opportunity to use the Olympic Games to make sure that job opportunities and affordable housing come to east London. We have specific proposals for LOCOG (the London Organising Committee for the Games) on 2000 longer term job opportunities with Olympic sponsors and contractors; and specific proposals for the Legacy Company for the first residential development on the Olympic Park to include 100 Community Land Trust homes.

On 30th November at the TELCO Assembly, the Chief Executives of LOCOG and the Legacy Company will join 2,000 TELCO members to negotiate a public deal around jobs and housing for East London.

Please contact your borough Organiser for tickets.
