Theresa May: Do not abandon the Dubs Scheme for refugee children

Theresa May has decided to shut down the Dubs Scheme - a promise by the Government to bring the most vulnerable refugee children to safety in the UK.

Our country has a proud tradition of welcoming those most in need. We stepped up to rescue 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi persecution.

I myself arrived in the UK by the Kindertransport.

Now more than ever we must stand by our values.

Thousands of children we promised to help are still in danger.

Britain is better than this. Sign to keep the Dubs Scheme alive.

If a rich nation like Britain, that has gained it’s wealth at the expense of the rest of the world, can’t help a few desperate people then it deserves the backlash that it will surely receive in the coming decades. Most of the refugees will return to their origins as soon as stability is restored anyway and that stability can be restored all the sooner if civilians are encouraged to leave.

Please save these children. I’ve been to Calais many times. I have a nine year old son. I would die to think of him living in these conditions. I met a very young boy sleeping under a motorway bridge. The police took his sleeping bag in front of me. He was from darfur. He looked so afraid. He was wearing no socks. He was freezing. The next night I went to meet him to take him some socks and food. His friends said he’d gone missing after I’d left.

God help them!! Surely they are the most vulnerable people in Europe right now

10,000 refuge children already gone missing on EU soil. How many more have to be quietly sacrificed to serve this government’s agenda of racist scapegoating? The resources, the power and the public will to do more, is there. The government has no justification for the cruel & shortsighted decision to scrap Dubs after admitting a handful of children to claim their right to sanctuary on the UK. No one who fails to oppose this may speak with any authority on the rights of children, international law or Britain’s ‘proud history of refugee protection.’

History will judge harshly all who don’t stand up in the face of this barbarity.

The borough of Hammersmith and Fulham provided funds for an EAL unit at Fulham College Boys’ School many of whom are refugees.

This has been VERY successful however since Theresa May decided to cut the numbers from 3000 to 300 our intake this year has been 3 against the 18 last year.

This is a crying shame given that the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham wrote to Teresa May following her decision informing her that they did have a number of families to place the unaccompanied minors – surprisingly she did not bother writing back -
