TELCO leaders have been negotiating with London 2012 organisers since 2004. Before London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Seb Coe and Ken Livingstone (who was Mayor of London at the time) appraoched TELCO to seek our support.
TELCO gave London 2012 our support on the condition that People’s Guarantees would be included in the bid.
These guarantees were:
1. That all jobs made available by London 2012 would be Living Wage jobs (currently £8.30 per hour) as opposed to Minimum Wage jobs (currently £5.93 per hour)
2. That a training academy would be built on the Olympic site to make sure that local people could be trained in construction skills
3. That 25% of the jobs made available by London 2012 would go to local people from the 5 host boroughs
4. That some homes would be built on the Olympic site post-2012, and that these homes would be part of a Community Land Trust, helping reduce the price of those homes by nearly 75%
To make sure that London 2012 delivers on its promises, TELCO leaders have been meeting with Olympics officials regularly. It has been a very fruitful relationship.
As part of this on-going relationship, London 2012 has asked TELCO to help with the recruitment of local people for the jobs available during the summer of 2012.

Applying for a Living Wage job:
Getting a job is simple, but everybody applying needs to go through a 2-step process:
1. Selection of candidates at ‘Selection Fayres’ held in TELCO institutions. People bring their CVs with them and get some advice and hear whether they are ready for interviews with contractors.
2. For those people going through the ‘Selection Fayres’ successfully, ‘Recruitment Fayres’ will be held in TELCO institutions. At these ‘Recruitment Fayres’, candidates will be able to sit down with contractors and be interviewed.
These ‘Selection Fayres’ and ‘Recruitment Fayres’ are taking place between September and November.
